1976 Profile: Gary Marangi

Quarterback
No. 17
Boston College
"Marangi has shown outstanding potential as a quarterback in limited appearances over two seasons. Last year he played in five games and threw three touchdown passes, including a 64-yarder to O.J. Simpson for the Juice's record breaking 23rd touchdown of the year. Gary also had touchdown throws to Bob Chandler and J.D. Hill.
Gary played in three games in 1974 and his first pro pass was a 44-yard touchdown bomb to Hill against Miami. He came off the bench in that game to replace Joe Ferguson and completed six of nine passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Gary has a strong arm, reads defenses well and is a poised, talented scrambler.
BC's starting quarterback for two seasons, Marangi finished as the Eagles' third leading passer of all time with 2,739 yards on 235 completions. A running threat as well from the BC wishbone, he was captain of the Eagles as a senior. An All-East and All-New England selection, Gary received the coaches award as BC's outstanding player. He played in both the East-West Shrine Game and the American Bowl.
Gary was a marketing major. He worked in the winter training horses at Buffalo Raceway and his hobbies include all sports and his two pet Great Danes."
